In partnership with the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego, the Japanese Friendship Garden debuted its first documentary examining the historical events that have shaped the Japanese American community in Balboa Park over the course of 100 years, from the 1915 Tea House to the present-day Japanese Friendship Garden. This documentary included interviews and oral histories of local civic leaders and community members who have worked to preserve history and raise awareness of the Japanese American community. A year-long exhibition featured the rare photos and artifacts of the different Japanese organizations existing in the Park. Related events and materials included a film premier, screenings, a lecture series, and a website.
