Marking the 100th birthday of the Spreckels Organ, a special concert with organ and choral participation was featured on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, from 7pm to 9pm.
A grand procession of banners opened the celebration at 7:00pm, led by 50 bagpipers from the House of Scotland Pipe Band and the Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band, followed by a brass fanfare from Westwind Brass, a re-dedication of the Spreckels Organ by John. D. Spreckels (actor Walter Ritter) and the inauguration of the organ’s newest addition, the regal Centennial Tuba.
Inspired by tradition, Dr. Carol Williams composed and performed a world-premiere organ composition written especially for the occasion, highlighting the new Centennial Tuba.
Similar commemorative concerts were held on Thursday, January 1, 2015, and Friday, January 1, 2016, to mark the Centennial closure.
