Throughout 2015 and beyond
SDG&E and the City of San Diego are hard at work to make Balboa Park one of the most sustainable parks in the country as it approaches the centennial celebration in 2015. We have launched a new effort to install highly efficient LED lighting along the Park’s central walkway, from the end of the Laurel Street Bridge, through the Plaza de Panama to the fountain outside the San Diego Natural History Museum. In addition to being more energy efficient, the lighting will create a memorable experience for park visitors by spotlighting the museums and other landmarks in a variety of brilliant colors. We are also replacing the exterior pathway and parking lot lights throughout the park with new LEDs. This overall effort is expected to save the City of San Diego approximately $50,000 annually in energy and maintenance costs.
